Advocating for Women in Technology is an iSchool student organization whose goal is to inform, educate, and mentor students, especially women, in developing the technical skills necessary to succeed academically and professionally.
This fall, AWIT is establishing a weekly Learning Commons initiative focused on developing computer programming skills. In addition, AWIT will continue to hold a variety of special events throughout the year. Check out our Events page or Facebook page for updates.
AWIT was established in 2011. Events last year (2012-2013) included:
- a film screening of She++, the Stanford documentary designed to inspire and empower women in the field of computer science
- a panel event featuring Austin women currently working in tech industries
- a Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon Workshop organized to help close the gender gap on Wikipedia
- an AWIT iSchool Showcase that featured projects from iSchool women working on their master’s and doctoral degrees.
