Advocating for Women in Technology

“1.4 million computer specialist jobs are expected in the U.S. by 2020.” –She++ Statistics

Advocating for Women in Technology is a sub-committee of ASIS&T. Its goal is to inform, educate, and mentor students, especially women, on the benefits of gaining technology and computer skills. Our organization began in the spring of 2013 with a screening She++, a 12 minute film created by Stanford graduates that encourages women to pursue coding and careers in technology. AWIT strives to continue to address this topic and expose iSchool students, male or female, to technology learning opportunities whether they are interested in libraries, archives, or code.

Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

AWIT  hosted the Art+Feminism Wikipedia-edit-a-thon at the UT Fine Arts Library (map) on Friday, March 4 from 12:30-4:30 pm. The edit-a-thon, hosted by UT student organizations the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) and Advocating for Women in Technology (AWIT), is an event to bring together diverse communities to expand the coverage of women artists on Wikipedia. We are very excited to be working on Wikipedia articles featuring women in the arts as well as providing expertise and support to participants during the event.
